Review by Book Club member Sandra Lister: This is the first time I’d read a Jojo ooyes and I found it a brilliant read from start to finish. The author had me so captivated I ploughed through it in four evenings. It was so beautifully written that once I started, I wanted to shut out the world and get it finished. Young Athene Forster is beautiful and full of life but very spoiled and out of control. Her marriage of two years is on the rocks so she opens The Peacock Emporium and befriends other misfits like herself. A young Argentinian man helps Athene start a journey of self-discovery which sees her suffering unfortunate tragedies but she becomes a stronger person for it. Meanwhile, after being at odds with her father for years since her mother’s death, they begin to make peace with one another and gradually Athene learns she more like her mother than she ever realised.
