This review is by NZWW Bookclub member Ann Chandar This story is about a strong, confident woman. Set in a time when women were servers and men providers, Julie Harmon Richards is considered a woman at the tender age of 17. She already works just as hard as a man does, taking on her father’s duties when he falls ill. Julie is not afraid of hard work, but is angry that it always seems to fall on her, even though she is not the eldest. When she meets the man of her dreams, Hank Richards, she leaves home, her family and all her chores to start a new life. Back then, that was some feat – more challanging and harder than anyone could imagine today. A story like this truly makes you appreciate the things we so easily take for granted.
