Knit wool bowl

You can never have too many containers around the home for all those tiny things you need to store. Learn how to crochet these funky baskets in three handy sizes.

Materials:

  • Hooked “Zpagetti Uni” stretch yarn (95% cotton, 5% elastane, yardage – 120m/850g); 1 cone in high-shine Petrol and 3 cones in brown – sufficient for all baskets

  • 1 bamboo crochet hook, 12mm.

Size: small basket (approximately 30cm in diameter, 10cm in height); medium basket (approximately 26cm in diameter, 18cm in height); large basket (approximately 48cm in diameter, 33cm in height).

The baskets are crocheted in rounds with sc and htr. Start each round with 2 replacement tr for the 1st sc or the 1st htr, and close with 1 sl st into the upper of the 2 replacement tr. When changing colour, stitch replacement tr in the new colour.

Small basket: Rnd 1: ch 6 in brown and close into a ring using 1 sl st. sc 8 into the ring. Rnd 2: 2htr into each sc = 16htr. Rnd 3: 2htr into every 2nd htr, 1htr into the remaining htr = 24htr. Rnd 4: 2htr in every 3rd htr = 32htr. Rnd 5: 2htr into every 4th htr = 40htr. Rnd 6: 2htr into each 5th htr = 48htr. Rnd 7: 2htr into each 6th htr = 56htr. Rnd 8: no additions. Rnd 9-10: stitch in Petrol, no additions. Stitch up threads.

Medium basket: Rnd 1: ch 6 in Petrol and close into a ring using 1 sl st. sc 8 into the ring. Rnd 2: 2htr into each sc = 16htr. Rnd 3: 2htr into every 2nd htr, 1htr into the remaining htr = 24htr. Rnd 4: 2htr in every 3rd htr = 32htr. Rnd 5: 2htr into every 4th htr = 40htr. Rnd 6-12: no additions. Stitch rnd 10 + 12 in brown. Stitch up threads and turn the edge down approximately 5cm outwards.

Large basket: Rnd 1: ch 6 in brown and close into a ring using 1 sl st. sc 8 into the ring. Rnd 8: 2htr into each 7th htr = 64htr. Rnd 9: 2htr into each 8th htr = 72htr. Rnd 10: 2htr into each 9th htr = 80htr. Rnd 11-12: no additions. Rnd 13: begin decrease; skip every 6th htr of the previous round = 67htr. Rnd 14: no decrease.
