Taking time out to read

Like love, a good book can draw on every emotion. It can make you laugh out loud, bring a tear to your eye or simply make you smile. Books can ignite the mind, challenge it and inspire it, simply with the turn of a page.

Getting into the habit of reading regularly can be difficult given the dynamic and full lives we lead. The good news is, as most book lovers will tell you, if you make the commitment to read a little bit and often you will be amazed at how books can enrich your life. To help you rediscover the joys of reading, we’ve devised a series of simple time-saving options to make sure you find the time to read:

  • Turn off the box! Instead of watching your favourite soap, try relaxing with a good novel. It’s a great way to wind down from the hustle and bustle of your day and will ensure you get a great night’s sleep.
  • Carry a book in your handbag so you can entertain yourself while waiting at the bus stop or during your lunch break.
  • Read a book while enjoying your morning cereal. You’ll not only fuel your body for the day, but you’ll energise your mind as well.
  • Take a book to your favourite café and indulge in some light reading while enjoying the outdoors.
  • Unsure of what to do with the kids this weekend? Why not take them to the local library, or take a book to the park and enjoy the outdoors together? You can nurture your children’s love of reading and have time to yourself at the same time.
  • Join a book club – not only will you get some social time with your friends, you’ll also get to share the details of your juicy read.
