Ideas for adding summer colour to your home

Welcome the coming summer into your home with splashes of warm yellow, orange and ochre.
Ideas for adding vibrant colour to your home

As the watery spring sunshine starts to develop a deeper, warmer quality, it’s an ideal time to think about making changes on the home front. And what better colours to consider than those which are associated with heat and light, namely orange and yellow? Rich and vibrant, they can be used in large quantities for a full and enveloping experience or as punchy accents in an otherwise simple environment. Whatever your preference, we hope these ideas will inspire you.

Make a splash with furniture

Sometimes adding pizzazz is as simple as choosing a couple of bright signature pieces in the furniture line. These matching armchairs are bold and dramatic in their relatively neutral environment. The stunning mirror evokes the sun – fiery and dramatic.

Nature’s best

The colours of sunshine are especially striking when teamed with textures from nature. Try using simple wooden furniture and materials such as cane and wicker.

Summer living

In Mediterranean countries, ochre shades have always been popular. These colours look amazing when they are set against stained wood nishes and you can punctuate them very effectively with lighter hues – or even darker ones such as red and chocolate brown.

It’s warm outside

Orange and yellow can also enhance outdoor living. Here a pretty striped canopy covers a small but effective patio area. Terracotta surfaces work well with these colours and the bright energetic hue of the chair covers enhances the cosy atmosphere.

Brighten the borders

This smart but uncomplicated dining corner gets a vivid dash of energy from the framed coloured squares with contrasting borders. You could re-create the look with inexpensive chain store frames and a selection of test pots or, alternatively, paint a series of canvases for a similarly vibrant effect.

Bring out the blooms

Traditional spring flowers such as tulips and daffodils can make a major decorating statement in their own right. Mass as many as you can afford (if you don’t grow your own, that is) in a simple glass or pottery vase. Keep them away from direct sunlight and change the water frequently to ensure their long life.

Mellow yellow & light white

Yellow is a super shade for bedrooms with its ability to make spaces seem truly serene. Contrast it with white for a simple yet striking atmosphere and add accents such as red and orange – sparingly – for a brighter dimension. This room is reminiscent of a French country house: elegant yet unassuming.

Inside out

Yellow, white and green is the ultimate natureinspired palate, guaranteed to make a room feel peaceful and relaxing. Don’t forget to include fresh flowers and leafy green plants to keep that indoors-out theme truly alive.
