Green recipe: Homemade glass cleaner

The most simple, old fashioned way of cleaning glass is to use white vinegar.

Cleaning windows can be a thankless task, as you sit down to gaze through the clean glass, only to find streaks all over it. The most simple, old-fashioned way of cleaning glass is to use white vinegar. Make up this spray next time you’re in a cleaning frenzy, and promise me you’ll use balled-up newspaper to finish off, rather than paper towels.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white vinegar

  • 2 cups water

  • 2-3 drops dishwashing  detergent

Combine ingredients in a spray bottle. Spray on the windows and wipe with a soft cloth (I like the new microfibre ones). Get some newspaper, scrunch it up, and wipe the window dry. You should hear it squeak, which means you are getting rid of the streaks. For scum on glass shower doors, use neat white vinegar. Spray on, leave half an hour, and rinse.
