Decorating children’s bedrooms

Unleash your inner child with paints and pieces.

BIG PICTURE When using contrasting colours, its important to select the correct shade. Applying green and cream together, and introducing stripes to give it that “wow” factor when decorating, can just make the room. When adding, prints, or even a design, it’s very important to measure and mask the entire space before painting. Make sure you use a good tape – ideally the type that prevents any leakage of paint underneath it – and take care not to rip up your work when removing the tape afterwards.

Introducing a quirky piece of art always brings a room to life. I have selected three stunning works that are bright and eye-catching.

When it comes to buying objects for a room, I tend to stick with an overall theme, or am guided by the colours. It’s also good to introduce new pieces with the old ones. I like to have strong punches of bright hues in the bedrooms, because for me bold colours mean happy spaces. As you will see (while I was out looking for my favourite piece for this room), I have picked objects that act as vibrant splashes in the room and will bring the space to life – such as the large standing giraffe chalkboard or the clock photo frame, which you could use for your kiddies’ artwork.
