She may have turned 40 this year, but Cameron Diaz has legs to rival those of starlets half her age. Supremely athletic, the actress surfs, runs and cycles, but her personal trainer of 10 years,

Teddy Bass, also puts her through an intense weekly fitness regime. Bass says that Diaz completes a combination of regular 45-minute sessions of Pilates, cardio activity and weights – the perfect mix for women over 30. For her legs, he prescribes lunges, squats, step-ups and the side curtsey.

TRY THIS: The side curtsey tones the legs and buttocks. Stand with feet hip-width apart and take a deep, diagonal step backwards with your right leg (so the foot lands behind and to the left of your left foot).

Contract your abdominal muscles and take a deep curtsey, bending your knees. Push back up and repeat 12-15 times before changing sides. As fitness improves, perform the exercise with dumb-bells or a medicine ball.
