Jamie McDell: Six strings and a sailboat
By Emma Rawson on 8th November, in Music, Reviews
Kiwi singer-songwriter Jamie McDell sounds a little like Taylor Swift – had Taylor grown up surfing on the shores of Mangawhai, north of Auckland. “I got a beach, a melody and a guitar,” sings Jamie in her first, reggae-infused single You’ll Never Take That Away, which reached number one. The tracks are drenched with the sounds of summer, surf and sand. Although she does follow rather closely in Swifty’s footsteps, this hot young talent makes her own mark on the sassy single Rewind, which tells the story of a bad romance.
