Worried about the decision of grandchild’s name
By Wendyl Nissen on 22nd December, in Columnist
Dear Wendyl,
I am about to become a grandmother for the first time and I am very excited. But I have to say something about a terrible decision they have made. The name of the baby is just horrible. I’m not going to write it here because they might read this letter, but it is on a par with Chardonnay and Harley in terms of Westie names. I’ve tried to suggest other names and gently pointed out that the poor child will spend his whole life having to explain it, but they are adamant and think they have been clever. Do you have some ideas?

Dear Worried Gran,
I suggest you channel your energies into something useful like paying for a stroller, or help do up the nursery because this is none of your business. The world has changed since you were naming babies and last time I looked it is and always has been the parents’ job to name a child. The best you can hope for is that he will get a nickname which you feel happier using, and if not you can create your own.
