How to grow sprouts

Sprout seeds are easy to grow and are so handy to throw in sandwiches or to add to stir-fries.
Sprouts

When there’s not much happening in the garden, I sprout seeds. These are so handy to throw in sandwiches or to add to stir-fries. Alfalfa is considered the most nutritionally concentrated of all sprouts and contains protein, carotene, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, sodium, sulphur, silicon, chlorine, cobalt, zinc, vitamin K and abundant chlorophyll. And seeds take just a few days to sprout.

  1. Put 3 tablespoons alfalfa seeds into a large jar. Fill the jar with warm water and leave to soak overnight. In the morning, put some cloth, with a rubber band holding it, over the top of the jar (or you can buy special sprouting lids) and drain.

  2. Place on your windowsill. Rinse and drain every day until your sprouts grow.

  3. When they are green and crisp, store them in your fridge.
