Cake storage advice

Like so many of us these days, I’ve become a keen home baker. Because it’s been such a hot summer, I’ve had trouble with some of my cakes going mouldy before the family has had a chance to polish them off, despite the fact that I carefully store the cakes in lidded plastic containers.

Aha! Those plastic containers are actually the cause of the problem. Heat and condensation can easily build up inside them and that’s what starts the mould process. Try using a good old-fashioned cake tin with a secure lid, and wrap your cakes in tinfoil before storing them. You could also try making smaller cakes during summer when many people tend to have less of an appetite.
