1970′s inspired fashion

Retro’s back, baby. All the major brands have got you covered this season when it comes to 1970s-inspired fashion.

Florals, crochet, big brimmed hats, wide-leg high-waisted pants and statement shoes are what made the 1970s
era iconic. The fashion also had a strong ethnic influence.

Accessories from that era tended to be statement pieces incorporating natural crystal stones laid into beaten metals. Before you run off and start digging through dusty old boxes of clothing, you need to be careful with this look.

Just borrow influences off it and keep it modern, otherwise you run the risk of looking like you’re off to a fancy dress party.

Fabrics have come a long way since the 1970s – no-one wants to see big-collared polyester shirts. Now we wear silks and chiffons, with sexy, draping bell sleeves.

Wear flares or bootleg jeans with wedges or platform heels and keep them long – almost covering the shoe –
to get the full effect.

Sleeves are a design feature of tops and dresses of the 1970s, and this is great news if you’re someone who likes to keep their arms covered. Silk or chiffon will float around the arm, rather than cling to it.

Tunics are great for those wanting to hide their stomach. one that’s cinched in under the bust and drapes down over fitted jeans and platform heels gives the illusion of long legs.
