Sarah Townsend: My beauty secrets

Sarah Townsend: My beauty secrets

Sarah Townsend (47) is the founder of The Aromatherapy Company.

MY BEAUTY PHILOSOPHY IS… To drink lots of water; to keep up with my magnesium vitamins; to get a minimum of eight hours sleep a night; to do my meditation technique to encourage regulated breathing and ensure I am calm and relaxed; to thank my grandmother and mother every day for their good genetics; and most importantly, to use only pure and natural products on my skin.

THE SKINCARE PRODUCTS I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT ARE… I have recently got onto a new affordable skincare regime using O Cosmedics. These products have active vitamin C powder, which is not only amazing for regenerating skin cells but helps even out skin pigments. I never use fragranced body and soap products, only those made with essential oils. It ensures my skin is nourished, healthy and glowing.

MY HAIRCARE SECRET IS… My best asset is Hamilton Brooks, my hairdresser in Auckland’s Newmarket – he’s a wonder with colour. I often use The Aromatherapy Co. Therapy Lavender, Manuka and Chamomile Body Oil to moisturise my hair. I put this treatment on and sometimes leave it in a shower cap overnight. I have also been known to rinse my hair with beer to make it healthy and shiny, and to accentuate my auburn highlights.

THE MUST-HAVE PRODUCTS IN MY MAKEUP BAG ARE… I can’t go anywhere without a MAC Lipglass and Magic Ink Jet Liquid Eyeliner from Benefit, which I stock up on whenever I’m in Sydney. I never leave the house without my favourite essential oil blend – sweet orange and jasmine – which is an amazing pick-me-up, stress release and energy booster.

MY FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREAT IS… To have a big exfoliation session with my favourite The Aromatherapy Co. Body Scrub, followed by a long hot bath with a Therapy Body & Bath Oil, all in my favourite, luscious scent of Wild Mint and Bergamot. The ideal way to wind down after a big week and ideally done child free!

MY BIGGEST BEAUTY SIN IS… Too much sun and sunbathing on my face and décolletage when I was younger. I now never let my children or myself go outside without SPF protection.

THE BEST THING MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME ABOUT BEAUTY WAS… Never go to sleep with your makeup on and drink lots of water. Also, healthy eating with lots of organic food, nuts, seeds and oils can do wonders for keeping wrinkles at bay.
