Auckland comedian Urzila Carlson, 38, appears on TV3’s 7 Days. She shares her beauty secrets below.
My beauty philosophy is… moisturise everything and always wear perfume, then you’ll feel beautiful.
The skincare products I can’t live without are… Olay Complete during the day. It’s got an SPF 15. It’s important to protect your skin from the sun as it ages you and can give you cancer, so SPF it up, ladies. At night I use Olay Total Effects Night Cream. I love Olay, we call it “Oil of Delay” in my house.
My haircare secret is… Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal. Also Schwarzkopf Ultimate Oil Elixir because my hair takes quite a beating. I straighten it most days and when I’m on telly, there’s a lot of product that goes into it.
The must-have products in my make-up bag are… I have a great waterproof mascara that I rely on like a good friend, Max Factor Masterpiece. I once used mascara that wasn’t waterproof and,
after 10 minutes on stage, I was wearing it on my cheeks like I was in a low-budget rom-com.
My favourite beauty treat is… a pedicure. I go for a dry treatment, where they don’t use water and don’t soak your feet in a pool where other people’s feet have soaked – yuck! They only use oils and give me a massage before painting my toenails.
My biggest beauty sin is… I sometimes go to bed with my make-up still on and give myself a terrible fright the next morning when I see myself in the mirror with raccoon eyes.
The best thing my mother taught me about beauty was… moisturise your hands and neck. Lots of women stop at the chin and then, in their fifties, have great facial skin but old neck and hands. Look after the total package.
