My beauty secrets: Sue Doherty

Auckland’s Sue Doherty  (50) is a fashion stylist and the founder of Swap My Clothes.

My beauty philosophy is… Make time to look after yourself. Beauty comes from within, so if you’re feeling good, you’re going to look good. However, to feel this way, you need balance – which means time-out – and on the whole, women are not very good at that. So, I say let’s get good at pampering and focusing on ourselves more.

The skincare products I can’t live without are… Nivea Q10 moisturiser and Manuka Honey Face Cream. My face loves these simple and cost-effective creams, and I find I’m allergic to most other products.

My haircare secret is…Lots of conditioner. I have really long hair. I let it dry naturally, then if I want curls, I tie it up before it’s just dry and leave it up until I’m ready to go out. Otherwise, I let it dry naturally and straighten it. I don’t like using a blow-dryer, as it dries my hair out. I love KMS California Add Volume Body Build Detangler and use it after each wash.

The must-have products in my make-up bag are… MAC lipsticks – my favourite colour is Half ‘n Half because it’s so versatile. MAC Mascara is the best for getting my lashes long. I also always have perfume with

me – my number one choice  is Chanel Allure.

My favourite beauty treat is… Facials and microdermabrasion. I love the cleanness of my skin afterwards and feel I emerge from treatments glowing. My favourite place to visit is exquisite in Parnell.

My biggest beauty sin is… Very occasionally forgetting to remove my make-up before I go to bed. It’s the original sin – so naughty!

The best thing my mother taught me about beauty was… Take my make-up off before bed and cleanse! My mother was a nurse, so it was always about being fresh and clean.
