Clare O’Higgins (52) is the general manager of the charity Look Good Feel Better (LGFB). Here she shares her beauty essentials.

My beauty philosophy is…

To smile. Beauty does come from the inside out; LGFB is dedicated to improving the wellbeing and self-confidence of people undergoing treatment for  cancer. It’s a programme focused on feeling good  from the inside by taking control of the appearance  on the outside. We lift spirits and bring back smiles.

The skincare products I can’t live without are…

A high SPF sunscreen is an absolute must, especially for my face as I’m training

for my first marathon so I need something with high protection that lasts the distance (excuse the pun!).

I exfoliate each week with Dermalogica Body Scrub and the handy Schick Intuition Razor is fantastic. My new favourite body product is Vaseline  intensive care Spray Moisturiser. I’m a multi-tasker (aren’t all mums!)

so I love the convenience without losing the feeling of soft skin.

My haircare secret is…

A regular cut with Matt at Servilles, Ponsonby. The service is fantastic and I always feel well-groomed afterwards. At home, I use Kevin Murphy Angel Wash and Rinse daily. Kevin Murphy products smell gorgeous

and the Anti-Gravity Spray  is a godsend for my fine hair.

Revlon CC Cream

The must-have products in my make-up bag are…

I’ve never liked the feeling of heavy make-up, so learning about the joys of BB and CC creams changed my world. These products give a lovely light, sheer look. In the LGFB workshops, I’ve also learned the true power of lipstick as a pick-me-up. I have five shades and brands in my make-up bag at the moment. Try this Revlon Age Defying CC Cream, $28.50.

Beauty-sleep

My favourite beauty treat is…

Exercise and sleep. The skin is so much better with both.

My biggest beauty sin is…

Not making time or feeling like l don’t deserve a treat. My partner and son get so frustrated. I think many women have this internal battle. I should take advice from our workshops as I see the difference it makes in lifting our participants’ spirits.

Groomed eyebrows

The best thing my mother taught me about beauty was…

Not from my mother but one of our amazing LGFB tutors, Leigh – never leave the house without your eyebrows! Try this The Body Shop Brow Definer, $20, and MAC Brow Set in clear $36.
