BOOK REVIEW: The One Plus One

Solo mum to a maths-whizz daughter and a mascara-wearing teenage son. Jess’s also holding down two jobs but still struggling to make ends meet.

Jess has it hard. She’s a solo mum to a maths-whizz daughter and a mascara-wearing teenage son. She’s also holding down two jobs but still struggling to make ends meet. When her daughter is offered a scholarship at an exclusive school, Jess sees
it as an opportunity to protect her from the bullies and give her a brighter future. There’s one problem: she must go to Scotland to
sit a test. When Jess meets Ed, the pair begin an unusual friendship and he offers to help the family to the exam. Their travels and humour will rip your heart in two, then piece it back together.
