Prince William was looking dashing in his bow tie at the London premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but there was one thing that would have brightened his spirits further – if his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was by his side.
Kate, who is still suffering from acute morning sickness, stayed away from the premiere and William admitted that, “Kate would have loved to have been here.”
The prince was spotted chatting to the film’s Kiwi director Sir Peter Jackson and stars, including Sir Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, and Cate Blanchett.
He joked with Australian-born Cate, “When I go to Australia I’m always winding up the Kiwis and vice versa, you always get a reaction,” he said.
The film screening was in aid of The Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, which supports industry employees during times of hardship. One of the fund’s trustees, Debbie Chalet, says she was pleased William made the effort to support the film, despite Kate’s illness.
“I said to William, ‘Thank you for taking the time to come and be here tonight’ because I’m sure he wants to be at home making sure Kate’s okay.”
Kate has missed four events in total over the past two weeks, due to her severe symptoms. While attending another event over the weekend, solo William revealed Kate is finding the sickness very tough.
“It’s a long old process, but she is getting there. She feels like it is going to go on forever,” he said.
