Spice Girls musical on the way

The stage is set to get a hefty dose of girl power with the confirmation that the Spice Girls are putting together a musical that will do for the famous five what Mamma Mia! did for Abba.

Judy Craymer, who produced both the film and stage versions of Mamma Mia, has revealed she has indeed teamed up with the iconic girl group, Universal Music and American Idol mastermind Simon Fuller’s new company to create the musical, called Viva Forever, which will tell its own story rather than acting as a tribute to the Spice Girls.

“I want to create a unique celebration of the band and its music, with its own flavour and joyful message,” Judy says. “It is important to me that the excitement, style and humour of the Spice Girls is well-represented on stage.”

Mamma Mia has already netted billions of dollars worldwide and there are hopes Viva Forever will do similar business. But what we can’t wait to hear about is the casting. Fingers crossed for Dame Helen Mirren as Baby Spice!
