Pop star Shakira is a mother. The 35-year-old singer and her beau Gerard Piqué have announced the arrival of their baby boy, Milan Piqué Mebarak, who was born in Barcelona on January 22. Milan weighed 6lbs 6oz (2.9kg) and the hospital reports that both mother and child are in excellent health.
“We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak,” the couple wrote on Shakira’s website. “The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification.”
The proud parents revealed that their new bub is already a football player just like his father, who is a central defender for FC Barcelona.
“Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth,” Shakira wrote.
