Prince William had his first official investiture ceremony, awarding OBEs yesterday.
William, who recently stepped down from his RAF duties, appeared to relish is his new role, taking the decoration from a velvet cushion and pinning them onto each recipient’s lapel.
One of those honoured with an award was tennis player Andy Murray, with whom William had an extensive chat.
“He asked me about my recent back surgery, which I had a few weeks ago and how I was feeling after Wimbledon,” said Andy.
“I teased him a bit as he had sent me a note to me before Wimbledon wishing me luck and his wife had written me a letter afterwards. Her handwriting was beautiful and I told him how fantastic it was compared to his.
“I have met him a few times before and he has always been very easy going. He seemed very relaxed today.”
William is expected to take on more responsibilities as his grandmother, the Queen, and grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, step back from their responsibilities.
