Their first wedding in 2005 was a low-key civil ceremony, but when Matt Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso renewed their wedding vows in the Caribbean over the weekend they made up for all the shortcomings of their first big day. Matt reportedly spent around $1.2 million to rent out the island of St Lucia’s entire Sugar Beach resort for a party with nearly 50 guests, including Ben Affleck and his wife Jennifer Garner.

Matt and Luciana exchanged their vows at sunset. The couple’s daughters Isabella (6), Gia (4) and Stella (2), and Alexia, Luciana’s daughter from a previous marriage, were at the ceremony according to Us Weekly. Matt was dressed in a tan-coloured suit and jandals and the bride wore cream gown featuring a sequined belt at the waist.

“After the ceremony, guests enjoyed an evening cocktail reception on the beach. Children were running around and playing with white parasols,” a source told People magazine.

“This isn’t a ‘Hollywood’ wedding,” one insider told Us Weekly. “Matt wanted it to be fun, happy and private. He felt like Luciana deserves this, first and foremost.” The star met Luciana in a Miami bar in 2003 while he was filming Stuck on You and she was working as a barmaid.

Friends of the couple say they had planned their vow renewal for some time. “They had a tiny ceremony the first time, and wanted to celebrate with family and friends,” a source told Us Weekly.
