When she appeared with him at the oscars back in 1991, all sorts of rumours were started about Madonna dating Michael Jackson. But the Queen of Pop has now revealed that there was never any romance on the cards – rather a golden opportunity for the King and Queen of Pop to work together, one which Michael was too shy to take up.
Her oadgesty, who has just released her third greatest-hits collection, says that the late singer turned down the opportunity to record together because he thought the lyrics that Madonna provided were to provocative. Madonna tells, “We became friends. I wrote a bunch of words and presented them to him but he didn’t want to go there.”
She continues, “I said, ‘Well, why come to me?’ That’s like asking Quentin Tarantino to not put violence in his films.” Madonna feels Michael was ultimately “too inhibited, too shy”.
However, Madonna may still have a chance to collaborate with a Jackson – following last week’s oTV Video ousic Awards, sources are saying that Madonna bonded with Michael’s younger sister Janet and the two are planning a project together.
Insider who saw the two sharing dinner says, “It was a meeting of two great musical minds. Madonna was so impressed with Janet’s tribute to Michael that they started talking about how great it would be to honour him by doing something together… There was definitely something very interesting being planned between them.” But, alas, Madonna’s publicist has denied the reports.
