Kiwi The Vampire Diaries star Daniel Gillies and his wife Rachael Leigh Cook have announced they are expecting their first child.

“Thank you everyone. We are delighted. X,” tweeted Daniel (37), who plays Elijah Mikaelson on the TV2 show.

“Thanks for the love you guys,” tweeted Rachel, who first made her name in the teen movie She’s All That. Rachel is currently filming the second season of the drama Perception, which has yet to screen on New Zealand TV.

“We’ve been hiding my rapidly growing bump while shooting but this kiddo is vying for screen time,” says Rachel.

“A lot of people are asking whether I’d prefer a boy or a girl. In truth, it doesn’t matter to me – I just can’t wait to meet little Keanu Robocop,” Daniel told US Weekly.
