Update: Harrison’s injuries were not life-threatening and the actor is expected to make a “full recovery”, according to an official statement from his publicist.

He was forced to make an emergency landing after his engine failed at 3,000 feet. The plane hit a tree on the way down but remained mostly intact after hitting the ground.

“I would say that this is an absolutely beautifully executed — what we would call — a forced or emergency landing, by an unbelievably well-trained pilot,” said Christian Fry of the Santa Monica Airport Association.

Harrison, 72, was reportedly flying a vintage World War II training plane when he crashed on a golf course in California earlier today.

The actor, who has been an aviation enthusiast for many years, was rushed to a local hospital in a serious condition. Sources say Harrison was the only person in the plane at the time and has reportedly sustained cuts to his head. The crash occurred just after takeoff from the Santa Monica Airport.

“There was blood all over his face. Two very fine doctors were treating him, taking good care of him,” Howard Tabe, an employee at the golf course, told NBC News.
