Bindi Irwin’s tearful tribute to Steve Irwin on Dancing with the Stars

Bindi Irwin performed a heartfelt tribute to her father Steve on Dancing with the Stars (US)

Bindi Irwin stunned audiences on Monday night on the current season of Dancing with the Stars (US), mastering a dance inspired by her “most memorable year”. The courageous 17-year-old drew on her annus horribilis in 2006 for the performance, when she tragically lost her father from a stingray attack at the age of eight.

“What shaped me the most would probably be when my dad passed away,” Bindi explained on the show. “It’s been nine years, and I’ve never really dwelled on that point when he did pass away. I think I’m ready to tell that story.”

Bindi and her dance partner Derek Hough performed a moving contemporary dance to ‘Every Step You Take’ by The Police. Bindi paid homage to her dad’s iconic khaki shirt and shorts uniform, in a similar-toned ballgown. The 17-year-old broke down at the end of the emotional rendition, to a standing ovation from the crowd.
