NZ Woman's Weekly

Hi ho, silver!

Dear Wendyl,
I loved your natural cleaning product recipes in the Green Issue. I have a drawer full of silver cutlery I inherited from my mother and it has all tarnished. Have you got any ideas? Susan, Whakatane

Dear Susan,
The nice man from Greenwoods’ washing soda sent me this great tip. Make a solution of one rounded dessertspoon of washing soda per litre of hot water in an aluminium pot – it must be aluminium as this causes the chemical reaction. Immerse your silver item, making sure it’s covered by solution and in contact with the aluminium. Don’t do this with non-metal items, though.
