Fresh approach

Hi Wendyl, I enjoy reading your page and would like to contribute some of my own natural cleaning recipes:

Recipe for oven cleaner –

  • 1 cup of cold water

  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar

  • 1 rounded teaspoon of baking soda.

  • Combine ingredients in a saucepan and bring mixture to the boil.

  • Allow to cool then paint on the oven (if you have an old spray bottle, you can decant the mixture into it and spray the oven).

  • Heat oven to 175°C, then leave to cool. Wash in the usual way.

  • oven racks can be cleaned by dissolving 1 teaspoon of washing soda in a laundry tub of hot water.

  • Soak racks, then wipe clean.

  • I used to use a window-cleaning brush on a hose but sometimes I got wetter than the windows! Now I just use the brush and a bucket with some methylated spirits and a squirt of Palmolive detergent.

  • Afterwards I just wash them down with a hose.

Thanks Joan,I knew once I started giving out these recipes there would be lots of ideas coming out of the woodwork, and the crew from April in the Afternoon at the Living Channel tell me there are hundreds of viewers wanting the recipes too, which is all good for the planet! So thanks for your contribution and I hope our readers enjoy them. I’m certainly going to try the window cleaner this weekend.
