I have very curly hair, and it’s a nightmare to control! What can I do to tame the frizziness?

We always long for what we don’t have, and for every person with straight hair who’s used perms, tongs or curlers to try to achieve body and fullness, there’s a curly headed friend or sister longing to keep her unruly hair under control. Here we have some simple tips to keep curly hair in good shape.
- Use products appropriate for your hair. It might seem obvious, but finding the right serum or cream greatly reduces the amount of time you’ll spend getting ready. Start with a moisturising shampoo and conditioner, especially designed for curly or frizzy hair. Regularly applying hair treatments, and go for lightweight, non-greasy smoothy creams and sprays just before you leave the house.
- Your hair will naturally get frizzy as it goes from wet to dry. To minimise this, do not rub your hair dry with a towel. Instead gently squeeze till semi-dry, then blowdry after applying product. Don’t wash your hair everyday, as this will strip the hair of moisture and contribute to frizziness.
- Blowdry your hair with a diffuser – this attachment distributes air evenly, so it will enhance your curls while preventing the ‘just blowdried’ flyaways.
- Curly hair is at the mercy of the weather – unfortunately when humidity strikes, sometimes the only option is to pop on a hat or head scarf. Alternatively, use a silicone based sealing spray to create a barrier between hair and moisture in the air.
